AMSI Winter School 2017 is hosted by the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) at the Gardens Point Campus, which is located in the central city location of Brisbane, Queensland. This is the only major university campus in the Brisbane CBD, nestled between the Brisbane River and City Botanical Gardens. Gardens Point is home to a range of arts and entertainment venues, including the Cube, Old Government House, Gardens Theatre and the QUT Art Museum.

This campus is well served by multiple public transport options. The closest transport hubs are listed below:

  • Closest Airport: Brisbane Airport
  • Closest Train Stations: Brisbane Central Station or South Bank Station
  • Closest Bus Interchanges: King George Square or Queen Street Mall
  • Closest Main Bus Stops: Alice Street (Stop 95), George Street (Stop 123) or Margaret Street (Stop 94)
  • Closest Ferry Wharf: QUT Gardens Point

Student accommodation will be located at UniLodge South Bank, which is a local student accommodation provider on Brisbane’s South Bank, close to the QUT Gardens Point Campus and the CBD. Students staying at UniLodge will be accommodated in a studio apartment with a private ensuite from Sunday, 25 June to Saturday, 8 July 2017.

Self-funding students (those who are not eligible for a grant, do not apply for a grant or are unsuccessful with their grant application) can choose to stay at UniLodge or the Oaks Hotel. Contact the Event Team at before 28 May 2017 to enquire about availability at UniLodge or to obtain the code for a reduced accommodation rate at the Oaks Hotel in Brisbane. Please note: Self-funding attendees will be responsible for the cost of their accommodation at UniLodge Southbank or the Oaks Hotel.

Oaks Hotel is also offering the reduced accommodation rate for non-student attendees. Please contact the Event Team at to obtain the code for the reduced rate.

AMSI and QUT make every effort to keep costs associated with student accommodation to a minimal amount. For more information, please contact the Winter School Director.

Please note: Accommodation for local Brisbane students is not offered, though all attendees are more than welcome to attend the social events during the AMSI Winter School.

Grants / Financial Support

AMSI, the Queensland University of Technology, and event sponsors offer two types of Grants to assist attendees from AMSI Member Institutions/Organisations with the costs of travel, accommodation and/or caring responsibilities to attend AMSI Winter School.
